Posted

June Almira McVeigh, 100, of Nauvoo, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2026, at her home. June was born on June 9, 1926, in Dallas City, Illinois, to George and Estella Bergmeier. On July 20, 1946, she married Sherman Leo McVeigh. They made their home in rural Nauvoo. Together, they built a life rooted in family, faith, hard work, and farming. As a true farmer's wife, June stood beside Sherm through long days and changing seasons while raising their children and caring for their home. They shared over 71 years of marriage before Sherm passed away on April 13, 2018.
June was proud of her children and loved supporting them in all they pursued. Whether lending a hand or offering encouragement, she was always there. She enjoyed helping in the Pumpkin Patch and Cricket Hollow Shop. She also enjoyed helping her sister with a food wagon at auctions. She cherished her time with family and friends.
June's home became the place for memorable traditions. At Christmas, sugar cookies were baked and decorated. At Easter, eggs were colored with the grandchildren. Year round, she usually had Monster cookies to enjoy. These traditions became treasured memories and reflected the warmth and care she brought to her family.
June was a member of Golden's Point Christian Church. Her life was a testament to her faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She expressed that faith through her kindness, service, and devotion to her family and others. She trusted in the Lord through the good days and the difficult ones, and she never lost sight of the hope she had in Him. That faith is what gives her family comfort today. She has gone home to be with her Savior and be reunited with loved ones. Her legacy will live on through the values she modeled, the love she gave, and the memories she created.
June is survived by her four children, Linda (Danny) Buckert, Russell (Donna) McVeigh, Rick (Debi) McVeigh, and Luan (Greg) Allen; her grandchildren, Michael Benjamin, Sam (Arianna) McVeigh, Jason (Tammi) McVeigh, Nikki (Chad) Robertson, Matt McVeigh, Kayleigh Allen, and Joel (Lelu) Allen; her great grandchildren, Cody (Cassie), Samantha, C.J., Avalynn, Silas, Willa, Josiah, Kadmen, Izzy, Adalynn, and Brodi; and her great-great grandchildren, Maddison, Delaney, Memphis and Millie.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sherm; her parents; her siblings, Doris, Virginia, George, Rodney, and Loretta, with Loretta passing away at birth; and her great-grandson, Brayden.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Golden’s Point Church in rural Hamilton, with burial to follow at Nauvoo City Cemetery in Nauvoo, Illinois. A funeral luncheon will be served at the church directly following the burial. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 10, from 10 to 11 am at the church directly before the service.
Memorials may be directed to Golden’s Point Church in rural Hamilton.
