DONNELLSON - The Central Lee boys fell to Burlington Notre Dame 57-49 Friday night at Central Lee High School.
The Hawks fall to 1-1 (1-1 SEI Super Conference) and play at Danville Friday night.
The Nikes got off to quick start going up 13-4 with just four minutes gone in the first period as Central Lee struggled getting their offense going. Notre Dame would stretch that lead to 15 at the end of the first period down 23-8.
Some adjustments at the break helped the Hawks defensively in the second period holding the Nikes to just 11 points, Carson Morrison and Kaden Swan heated up for the hosts. Swan, who finished with a team-high 14 had six in the second quarter. Morrison put up eight of his 11 for the game in helping the Hawks work back to a 34-27 deficit at the half.
The two played a more even game in the second half, but the Nikes’ Shay Stephens who had a game high 17, put up eight in the second half to help Notre Dame hold onto its advantage.
The Nikes are 2-0 on the year and 1-0 in league play after a 92-46 win over Van Buren to open the season. They play at West Branch on Monday night.
Owen Swan finished with nine points in the loss. Will Hayes was held to just six points, while Ward Fraise chipped in with five and Brett Cook added four.
Sandoval leads Lady Hawks to 2-0
DONNELLSON – Kenna Sandoval continues her hot start to the winter sports season dropping a 30-bomb on Burlington-Notre Dame Friday night as the lady Hawks rolled to 49-36 win.
Sandoval is averaging 26 points over the first two games and the Hawks are atop the SEI Super Conference South division at 2-0.
Central Lee opened an 11-7 first quarter lead and stretched that to 24-13 at the half behind Sandoval’s 17 points.
Taylor Jones had eight points in the win. The Lady Hawks travel to Danville on Friday this week.
Crusaders fall on buzzer beater
DANVILLE – The Holy Trinity boys fell to 0-2 on the year when a last second shot from the Danville Bears went in for a 58-55 win in SEI Super Conference basketball action.
The Crusaders held a one-point 53-52 lead going into the final minute, but Danville put up six points in the final 45 seconds to get the win.
Jack Ragar and Jay Ellison each has 12 points for the Crusaders. Layne Rung had 10. Leighton Rice led all scorers with 25 points for Danville. The Crusaders travel to WACO Monday night and then host West Burlington on Friday and W-MU in a 3:30 p.m. Saturday game.
Bloodhounds fall to Williamsburg
FORT MADISON - The Fort Madison Bloodhounds dropped a Saturday matinee to Williamsburg 77-41 in Fort Madison.
Aurelio Jaciunde scored 13 points to lead the Hounds. The Raiders kept the Hounds to just one point in the fourth quarter.
Freshman Jonah Tackett had 10 points in the loss. Brody Ulik added six. Jaciunde also led Fort Madison with five rebounds.
The Hounds fall to 0-2 on the year and host West Hancock Tuesday night in a 7:30 contest.
