Gordon W. Sherwood, 71, of Fort Madison, IA, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2026 at 5:51 PM at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
He was born on November 29, 1954 in Ft. Madison to Charles and Christel Gilpin Sherwood. On August 7, 1976 he married Karla Dains in Ft. Madison and they later divorced. He then married Paula Cooper on January 29, 2026 in Wever. Gordon worked for the Ft. Madison Community School District and retired in 2020 after forty-two years of service. Gordon was an avid WWE Wrestling fan. He loved to be outdoors tinkering with his tractors, hunting and mushrooming. Gordon also enjoyed going to flea markets for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Paula Sherwood of Ft. Madison; three children, Arthur (Dayna) Sherwood of Ft. Madison, Jeannine (Kevin) Eid of Ft. Madison and Ashley (Larry Boughton) Kohl of Burlington; nineteen grandchildren; his mother, Christel Sherwood of Dallas City; Paula’s children, Jody Christopherson of Mt. Union, Benjamin Harr of Burlington and Kayla Harr of Ft. Madison; nine step grandchildren; eight step great grandchildren; two brothers, Louis Sherwood of Warsaw and Charlie Sherwood of Naperville, IL; one sister, Tammy (Ron) Berry of Dallas City; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Father and one brother, Lanis.
The family will meet with friends on Friday, October 16, 2026 from 9:30 -11 AM at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory with the funeral service to follow at 11 AM with Pastor Ji Ramatowski officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
