Margaret “Marty” (Marlette) Warner, 84, of Fort Madison, Iowa, passed away at Birkwood Village on Thursday, October 8, 2026, surrounded by all of her family.
Marty was born on June 19, 1942, in Fort Madison, Iowa the daughter of Wayne and Delores Marlette. Fort Madison was home for most of her life. In 1962, she married Charles Warner of Bonaparte, Iowa and they had four children: Chuck, Jennifer, John and Daniel. They later divorced.
Marty was a very social person. She was involved in many organizations including PEO, Red Hats and DAR. Marty loved a good game of bingo and there was always a next bingo event on her calendar. She had a talent for finding the best deals at rummage sales and never passed up the chance to look for one. Her greatest passion was genealogy. She loved digging deep into family history, whether it was her own or that of a family member or friend and she would happily trace a family tree back generation after generation.
Survivors include her son: Chuck (Pam) Warner of Bonaparte; daughter: Jennifer (Bill) Balcerzak of New Berlin, Wisconsin; son: John (Renee) Warner of Fairfield, Iowa; daughter-in-law Leslie Hefner; eight grandchildren: Blake, Caitlin, Caylee, Carmen, Delaney, Cooper, James and Ryan and three great grandchildren: Jonah, Emmitt and Elenor.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Wayne and Delores Marlette; son: Daniel Warner and granddaughter: Jessica Warner.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 19, 2026 at Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 19, 2026 at Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson with Pastor Kevin Dice officiating.
Burial will be held in the Bonaparte Cemetery.
