Schmitz Funeral Home obituary - Kenneth W. Moeller, 90, West Point

Kenneth “Kenny” William Moeller, 90, of West Point, Iowa passed away peacefully at 6:10 p.m. October 7, 2026, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Home Health and Hospice in West Burlington.
He was born on March 1, 1936, the son of Joseph William and Cecilia Catherine (Geers) Moeller at Sacred Heart Hospital, Fort Madison, Iowa. He grew up on a farm near Pilot Grove, Iowa, the eldest of a large, hard-working, boisterous family.  He was a 1954 graduate of Saint James High School in Saint Paul, Iowa. In 1958, Kenny entered the Iowa National Guard at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and served several years. He married Jean J. Schneider on November 29, 1958, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fort Madison.
Kenny enjoyed working at J.G. Foecke hog buying station, farming and raising livestock. He volunteered as a Boy Scout leader and as St. Paul Fire Chief. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was on the West Point Housing Board. In 2000, he retired from the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. Kenny and Jean traveled abroad and made yearly trips to Panama City Beach, Florida, to spend a couple months savoring the sun, the seafood and several rounds of golf. They also loved visiting casinos during their travels.
Survivors include his wife Jean; children: Bill (Debbie) Moeller of West Point, Kelly (Mike) Hoenig of Fort Madison, Jay (Jane) Moeller of Norwalk, Kurt (Annette) Moeller of West Point, Rob (Jessica) Moeller of West Point; daughter-in-law Rhonda Moeller of Fulton, Illinois; Grandchildren: Matt (Sylvia) Moeller of North Liberty, Joe (Meagan) Moeller of Overland Park, Kansas, Desirée (Eric) Hamilton of West Point, Michelle (Mike) Orr of Hampton, Illinois, Matt (Jessica) Birdsley of Sterling, Illinois, Brianna (Cody) Jahn of Milan, Illinois, Shelby Hoenig (Mike Holley) of Norwalk, Samantha Hoenig (Milo Orton) of Denmark,  Aleyna (Wesley) Sely of Paris, France, Noah Percy of New York, New York, Dakota Moeller of West Point, Landon Moeller of St. Paul, Shianne (Ben) Menke of West Point, Seth, Corbin and Presley Moeller of West Point; great-grandchildren: Caroline, Christine, Andrew, Oliver Moeller, James, Evelyn Moeller, Aleah Moeller, Jayden Hamilton, Tayler (Jarek) Leonhardt, Kyli (Alex) Martin, Braden, Madison, Brynlee Birdsley, Marigold, Ronan Jahn, Ivy Menke; great-great grandchild Ava Martin; sisters: Mary Moeller of Fort Madison, Jeanice (Mark) Schwartz of Mount Pleasant, Coleen (Gene) Dingman of West Point, Joyce (Bruce) Maupin of Burlington; sisters-in-law: Maureen Moeller, Joan Sheppard (John Nelson) of Fort Madison, Nancy (Mike) Sanders of West Point; brothers-in-law: Carl Schneider of New Mexico, Tom (Mary) Schneider of Burlington, John (Kathy) Schneider of Burlington. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Steve; mother and father-in-law Joseph W. and Evelyn A. Schneider; brothers: Eugene “Mick” and Melvin “Shorty” Moeller; sisters-in-law: Judy Mertens Moeller and Cathy Schneider Moeller; brothers-in-law: Paul “Rudy” Moeller and Bill Sheppard and nephew David Maupin.
Kenny never knew a stranger or a food he didn’t like. He loved camping near the Skunk River, fishing, Marquette/Holy Trinity volleyball and family gatherings. 
His body has been entrusted to the crematory of Schmitz Funeral Home for cremation.
The family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, October 11, 2026 at Schmitz Funeral Home in West Point, with a Christian Wake Service at 5:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 12, 2026 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point with Father Dan Dorau as celebrant.
Burial will in Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
A memorial has been established in his memory for Holy Trinity Catholic School Teachers.
